The Northern Region

Breakaway country , Outback SAThe northern region of South Australia, commonly referred to as the Flinders Ranges and Outback, comprises around 80% of the state's land area.  The region supports a population of 32,000, the largest community being Port Augusta, which acts as a vital service centre for the region's widespread and diverse, small and micro communities.  

The region incorporates two of Australia's tourism icons – Flinders Ranges and the Outback, all of South Australia's priority mineral exploration regions and the cross roads of Australia's national land transport network.
